In ancient civilizations, people moved from one place to another in search of new horizons. But as we move towards a “civilized society”, we are losing the rights to look for a better life. My artwork explores the criminalization of undocumented immigrants, which is mostly based on my own experiences as an undocumented immigrant. Most of my ideas for my artwork come from a combination of memories of my journey when I came to the United States and the emotions that I feel while facing present obstacles. My artwork narrates the stories of many other immigrants with similar experiences. We face many challenges starting the day that we decide to leave everything behind to go to an unknown land and immerse ourselves in a different culture. We leave our beloved homes in search of a life where we can at least have basic human needs. Once we arrive at the “land of dreams”, we are criminalized and the system labels us as “Illegal Aliens”. Moving from one place to another to look for a better life should be a fundamental human right. However, the system is designed to keep us out, but we are here and we have always been here.

levitate the heavy part is a new suite of music that uses composition as a platform for each band member’s creative freedom. From a genre perspective, the music is aligned with and informed by the many jazz/Black American/creative music traditions that have come before it, focusing on groove, improvisation, and textured tonality.
Because this is a live recording session, audience members are asked to show up on time for the performance. Those that arrive late may not be able to enter. The band will play the full suite once through, and may record other takes once the performance is concluded.

Saxophonist/Clarinetist and Composer AARON IRWIN, Guitarist MIKE BAGGETTA, and Drummer JEFF HIRSHFIELD unite to create a collective musical voice that is direct, honest, and unique. The trio is touring in support of (after) on Adhyâropa Records, a collection of works inspired by poetry. The record draws its title from the practice in poetry of writing new works in conversation with existing works. The music reflects interactions between sound and verse that weave together melancholy, effervescence, and at times, anxiety sparked by chaos. Irwin’s longstanding interest in reading and understanding poetry was given room to breathe during the suddenly virtual world we lived in during COVID. He credits his teachers and classmates (Brooklyn Poets, Gotham Writers) with providing a much-needed outlet and realized the similarities between music and poetry: beyond the cliché, it is another layered world of expression and allows for an entirely different interpretation of emotional range in the attempt to give form to the intangible.

“Nappy Nappa isn’t an 'alt-rap' abstractionist. He’s a realist. He’s rapping about the reality he lives in — his time, his city, his head. Even when he’s piloting a spaceship into a state of unconditional love, he’s also doing the everyday work of organizing his everyday thoughts. He might sound like he’s rapping to us from another plane, but he’s still a part of the world we all share. 'I think of the audience as, like, adjacent to me,' he says, 'so we’re looking at the same thing.' What does he want us to see? 'A new sense of self,' Nappa says. 'I’m not thinking what I do makes me different than anybody. I want people to see a new sense of self, new ways to get through this [life]. And that’s it.'“ - Chris Richards / Washington Post

“Dongting Village” is an experimental short film about “Passing Time in A Still Space”. The apartment that we filmed is located in Wuhan, China. It has been in use for almost 100 years. Local tycoons in British colonial era, movie stars during World War II, and cleaners under the Cultural Revolution had all lived here, and it is now occupied by an underground artist who makes a living by doing part-time work. The film displays a day of this house in the post-pandemic period. Although everything seems 'normal', the viewer is able to feel the 'time' as it is meant to be, through the information conveys by sound and images. Since Wuhan became notorious worldwide as the outbreak site of Covid, it and its residents have been living in a historical narrative constructed by different political forces. As an independent artist, I wish that I can keep a slice of the real time, history and life.
”500 Miles Away From Home” is a film about love and forgiveness. The two main characters use their own experiences and actions to show us how to heal past wounds and love themselves and each other; how to pick up lost courage, face their mistakes, accept their imperfections, and embrace the challenges of life; and ultimately achieve a real sense of peace and understanding. More than demonstrating clichéd mother-daughter conflicts and family traumas, I am more concerned with bringing bravery and hope to those who are going through or have gone through similar dilemmas.

m. cole (fka sonic eddy) is an artist and musician obsessed with material medium & dialectical procession. Ritualistic aural conversation; weaving animated loops; midi-fueled dialogue; manipulated acoustics; we access the material ribbons of sound together; bodies dampen & reverberate & influence in companionship.
Wheatie Mattiasich is a singer and dulcimer player living in Baltimore, Maryland. Her music began as a solo endeavor, but for the past decade+ has been in collaboration with Stephen Santillan. Wheatie’s singing draws influence from various folk traditions, while Stephen‘s keyboard and guitar playing, brings in more contemporary timbres- both interested in abstracting the idea of a ballad.
A gift for lovers of 60s folk and crystalline, song-y psychedelia, Nighttime aka Eva Louise Goodman, delivers fluent, buoyant compositions that run the gamut of psych-pop, girl group, and Americana. Nighttime reaches deep into the essence of musicians such as Vashti Bunyan, Sibylle Baier and Pentangle, breaking down the decades into a sound thoroughly and bizarrely modern.
The feeling that Anastasia Coope’s music transmits seems to emanate from a precipice beyond the material world, like a void or memory pressing up against the veil. It’s exacting and enveloping but unmoored in space and time: ghostly, spectral, far-out folk.

E, the trio of Jason Sanford (Neptune), Thalia Zedek (Come, Live Skull) and new drummer Ernie Kim released their 5th full length LP, “Living Waters”, on Silver Rocket in April of 2024. On “Living Waters”, E delivers nine explosive new songs. Zedek and Sanford continue to develop the, at times densely, interwoven guitar interplay that has characterized their work to date, while simultaneously revealing a new set tricks and approaches displaying a songwriting ethic that continues to evolve dynamically. With the addition of Kim’s aggressive and musical approach to the drums, E delivers a sound that is both taut and driven, shimmering with the delineation of new constellations of sound.

In the mid-90s, Kwame Toure (f/k/a Stokely Carmichael) asked Black people to transform their anti-war movement into an anti-capitalist, anti-Zionist movement. “We must,” he said, “properly distinguish between Judaism and zionism." Nigerian musical revolutionary Fela Aníkúlápó Kútì instructed us that “music is the weapon of the future.” This music, then, is our weapon, sharpened like a flaming spear and aimed squarely at the heart of all structures that aid and abet white supremacy, patriarchy, settler-colonialism, capitalism, and, yes, zionism. The only futurism that can be responsibly embraced at the current time is a coming community founded in Justice – pure and undiluted. With our blackadelic tone science we are catalyzing a planetary migration out of an order regulated by greed and coercion into a social condition based on truth and justice. That is why our music sounds the way that it does. It must be about the unknown. YOU HAVE NEVER KNOWN JUSTICE.

The group has been called an "otherworldly experience" (Eugene Weekly) and "true genre warping music" (KFJC), recalling at turns the ecstatic energy of John Coltrane, the electronic squall of Death Grips, and the lilting songwriting of Mitski.
