New Passengers combines indie jangle, enjoyably abrasive power pop, and Buddy Holly-inspired rock n' roll to bring a new sound to DC. Singer and guitarist Aaron Morgan is a veteran of the 2000’s San Francisco scene, as the bassist for Thrill Jockey’s Golden Void, one-half of indie-folk duo The Finches, and a multi-instrumentalist for others. With New Passengers, Morgan elevated his status of trusted sideman to become the primary songwriter drawing on a wide range of influences and expanding on years of bedroom recordings.

Fresh to the DC area, Morgan met bassist Candice Adams at a Smashing Times show at Quarry House in early 2023. Adams, also from California, made her mark as a singer and bassist for numerous Sacramento punk bands including Nacho Business, Milhouse, and Riff Randals. Morgan and Adams quickly discovered shared musical sensibilities and shortly after their first rehearsals recruited DC native Dan Sachs to play drums and guitarist Roger Poulin. Sachs has played with numerous DC bands in genres ranging from post-hardcore to alt-country to synth folk, notably with experimental dork-punk heroes Surgery Dot Com. Poulin, originally from Boston, has been active on both coasts for over a decade, including as a second guitarist and backing vocalist for Magic Shoppe. Since moving to DC in 2018, Pulin has released two masterfully layered dream-pop/shoegaze recordings as Binding Spell, as well as playing in local post-punk band Opt Out.

New Passengers are just wrapping up a series of demo recordings and will begin self-releasing songs this summer.

Black Rails are a DC area trio that have been playing textures, guitar-based post punk since 2017. “Leaving the Migration,” their 6 song debut EP, was recorded at Viva Studio in Fairfax, VA and released by Impatient Records - the band’s self-run label - in November 2023.

FREQ FLAG are a new DC/Baltimore trio from Dave Bryson, Joe Halladay and Burleigh Seaver (ex-members of Son Volt, Des Demonas, Shortstack), dealing in rhythm-centric cosmic Americana. @freq.flag

Hey 19///Aaron Lee Estes

As a Baltimore-based artist, my work is heavily influenced by the dynamic and ever-evolving energy of the city. Through my use of a pile of cheap gear, I aim to create a sonic experience that transcends time and space, allowing the listener to fully immerse themselves in the present moment. My pieces are a reflection of my own personal journey towards inner peace and the ultimate goal of "having a good time all the time." Drawing inspiration from the unpredictable nature of life, each composition is a unique blend of cosmic beats and ethereal melodies that guide the audience on a journey of self-discovery. So come, let go of your inhibitions and let the vibrations of my music transport you to a state of pure transcendence.

Industrial Grade Acid is the collaboration between Mic Litter and Nikolai Koppernick, who have been recording stream of consciousness improvisations with a revolving door of electronic gear for over a dozen years.  I.G.A. began as post-basement show jams between musicians and attendees in 2010, which we named and numbered as “Doses.” Our material ranges from sampled found sounds to metallic percussion, howling synths, cyberpunk junk rhythms, feedback loops, and ambient droning.

Czonka is an instrumental duo featuring drums, bass, and synths that piles hypnotic, driving beats onto a large sonic palette. They are veterans of the DC post-punk scene (Pitchblende, Imperial China) and have just released their debut album, https://czonka.bandcamp.com, recorded by J Robbins at Magpie Cage in Baltimore. Czonka's music is a high-energy mix of art-punk and prog-rock styles along the lines of Battles, Trans Am, Holy Fuck, Can, and a little Primus thrown in for fun.

SEXFACES IS

Kitty pettin', people hatin' weird punk from Washington DC, featuring Jacky Cougar (Des Demonas, Thee Lolitas) Sal Go (Stop Worrying & Love the Bomb, The NVs) Hana Racecar (Tadzio, Coven Tree) and FiFi Allin(TK Echo, Et At It).

Combining the droney madness of Velvet Underground and wordsmith of the Fall, grounded in the punk attack and sense of humor of the Replacements and Ramones, Sexfaces plays full-noise zero-fluff based music for bad people.

Cinemartyr (originally called OST) was formed in Limerick, Ireland by composer Shane Harrington in 2008, before relocating to New York City shortly afterwards. "Stab City," a place once notorious for being the "murder capital" of Europe, is where composer Shane Harrington was raised. Cinemartyr is in many ways the culmination and result of a childhood forged amidst the gang feuds, burglaries and stabbings of the Southill ghetto in Limerick City. To date, Cinemartyr has released five diverse-sounding albums. A broad range of musicians including Nine Inch Nails, The Mars Volta, Fugazi, Death Grips, Swans, Show Me The Body and Hella have all been noted as influences to the band over the years. The current lineup for their upcoming album, OPT OUT, consists of Shane Harrington (vocals, guitars), Amber Moon (vocals, guitars), Aaron CT (bass) and David Goldman (drums).
