Film Screening: Now is the Time, plus music by Cornwell/Stewart/Green

The United States pays nearly twice as much for healthcare as any other industrialized nation, yet it still does not provide care for all its citizens. While the Affordable Care Act has helped some people, many of us are feeling the pinch of rising costs and narrowing networks. Polls show that 60% of Americans favor a national publicly funded healthcare program. So why has the U.S. Congress not yet passed - or even considered - such a plan? This documentary delves into what single payer healthcare is, how it saves money, and what behind-the-scenes heroes are doing to clear the fog of misperception that keeps us from moving forward (running time: 35 min).

The movie will be followed by a musical performance by the trio of Carl Cornwell (reeds), Luke Stewart (bass), and Tony Green (drums)

"Tony and I originally met when I joined Pharoah Sanders' band on piano in 1974. We later played with the last incarnation of Gil Scott-Heron / Brian Jackson and the Midnight Band (1978-79) before taking separate paths that led us back to formation of Unit Circle in the mid 90's with several other members of the Amnesia Express which I co-founded with Gil in 1981. ..I've been looking forward to a chance to work with Luke since we first met several years ago."
- Carl Cornwell.
