Concert: Nick Millevoi's Desertion Trio, Wild Torus, Safe Fast and Effective, Speedo

Saturday March 10th   8PM          $10

Nick Millevoi's Desertion Trio
Desertion Trio’s Midtown Tilt takes on the history of instrumental electric guitar music and throws it in a blender. Inspired by the town of Wildwood, NJ and the anachronistic clash of reimagined cultures seen in its motels and amusements, Midtown Tilt is an amalgamation of jazz, psychedelic blues, surf music, and country rock instrumentals played by a crew of musicians most often seen shredding noise rock, avant garde jazz, and metal. Midtown Tilt is the follow-up to 2016’s Desertion (Shhpuma), released under bandleader Nick Millevoi’s name, which NPR Music said, “Hits the sweet spot between Neil Young's exploratory Crazy Horse jams and a spaghetti western soundtrack,” and Noisey described as, “Supremely weird desert noir.”

Composed and produced by guitarist Nick Millevoi (Many Arms, Chris Forsyth & the Solar Motel Band, John Zorn), Desertion Trio features the wild rhythm section of bassist Johnny DeBlase (Sabbath Assembly) and drummer Kevin Shea (Mostly Other People Do The Killing, Talibam!). On Midtown Tilt, they’re joined by keyboardist and recording engineer Jamie Saft, who has collaborated with everyone from John Zorn to Bad Brains to Iggy Pop.

Midtown Tilt will be released on January 19, 2018 by Shhpuma, part of the Clean Feed label, focused on releasing music that goes, “Beyond, below, and above the jazz realm.” Pre-orders now available at https://nickmillevoi.bandcamp.com/album/midtown-tilt

Wild Torus
A torus is a sphere with a hole through it, which is the shape of the universe. Wild refers to the disruption of this stability, the matrix gone awry. Wild Torus (WT) refers to the dualistic yin/yang nature of the 2 leaders of the collective: Vlady Voz Tokk and Mág Ne Tá. Our rituals are mythical and hyper-sensory, often with references to aliens overlords, cult theologies, and our own personal trajectories. They bring artists and audience members together to engender alternate realities and deconstruct the Internet-driven, consumerist society we live in today through Fluxus-style happenings. We call ourselves Cyber Shamans, as we believe that we are medicine people for the digital age.

SAFE FAST & EFFECTIVE
brings together Dave Vosh (Safe), Keith Sinzinger (Fast Forty) and Chris Videll (Tag Cloud). Their off-label prescription combines custom electronics, found sounds, offbeat percussion and thrift store finds. They have collaborated in various projects in DC, Maryland and Virginia over the past six years.

Dave Vosh has been experimenting with electronic music since the early 1970s. Since discovering the DC experimental music scene in 2005, he has been active, usually using a small modular synthesizer, performing solo and in various duo, trio and quartet projects.  www.youtube.com/davevosh

Keith Sinzinger builds electronic, electroacoustic and percussion instruments at District of Chaos Studios in NE DC. A lifelong newsman, he aims to integrate contemporary issues and conflict into his music. Other collaborations include STYLUS and Fast Against the Wall.  File under: Intense Ambient. www.youtube.com/user/FortyFast/videos

Chris Videll has performed and recorded solo drone/ambient/noise as Tag Cloud for the past several years. The most recent release, “Pattern Recognition,” is available from Verses Records (https://versesrecords.bandcamp.com/album/pattern-recognition). In addition to working with Safe Fast & Effective, Videll collaborates with James Adams (BLK w/Bear, STYLUS) in BLK TAG and in the improv trio Zschwishenzug.
