Concert: Benefit for Sonic Circuits DC Festival with uru, Myelin Nation

Tuesday May 15th        8PM       $10

uru is the latest project of composer and pianist Daniel Sarid, joined by Nadav Masel on bass and Ofer Bymel on drums. The piano, bass, drum trio combines a myriad of different and at times seemingly contradicting influences into a unique sound that blends tradition with avant-garde. Working out of Tel Aviv, Israel, uru combines a myriad of different and at times seemingly contradicting influences into a unique sound that blends tradition with avant-garde. Sarid, who studied with piano greats Jaki Bayrd and Kenny Werner, has been one of the leading forces in the contemporary music scene in Israel. He is co-founder of one of the by now legendary tel aviv music venues, Levontin7, alongside musician Assif Tsahar, and manages the Israel contemporary Players, one of the most influential contemporary music ensembles in Israel.

The trio will perform compositions from Sarid's Latest album titled "loventurous" as well as new compositions due to be recorded in the near future.

Myelin Nation is a newly formed ensemble featuring notable improvisers Sarah Hughes, Corey Thuro, Maria Shesuik, Aaron Mertes & Daniel Ostrow. Sometimes a trio, sometimes a quartet, sometimes (though not yet) an octet, the group performs freely improvised music that goes wherever it's many ears can reach.
