Brooklyn-based fingerstyle guitarist J.R. Bohannon (Torres, Gold Dime, Ancient Ocean) announces his beautiful debut full-length album Dusk, released through Shahzad Ismaily's figureight records this November 1, 2019. The record represents a deep, intuitive study of the guitar in the American folk tradition imbued with influences from minimalism, Latin, & Greek music. Dusk is the result of many years of writing. While Bohannon's debut EP Recôncavo (released earlier this year on UK indie label Phantom Limb) introduced a new artist with great ability, Dusk lands exactly on his sound. The years of performing with virtuosic traditional bluegrass & folk musicians, with Mackenzie Scott a.k.a Torres and his own ambient project Ancient Ocean have refined his skill to incisive perfection, imbibing a luminant lyricism into his instrumental guitar playing. "Captivating... fingerstyle excursions." - Uncut Magazine
Peter Margasak called Health&Beauty's upcoming double LP Shame Engine / Blood Pleasure "one of the great rock albums to emerge from Chicago this decade." It is a record whose ambition is quietly enfolded into its seamless, sophisticated execution. Whether flanked by some of the scene’s most talented musicians, or armed simply with his own guitar, Health&Beauty's Brian J Sulpizio has learned to share, comfort, and communicate his thoughts, both dark and light, in a way that resonates within us. “Leonard Cohen-indebted lyrics through a Sonic Youth-indebted sound.” -FLOOD magazine
