Join us the first Thursday of each month for Rhizome's MicroCinema.
This month, Baltimore's Rebecca Reynolds will be there in person to screen her films and answer questions.
Huge thanks to Stephanie Barber for helping to curate this film series.
Rebecca Reynolds is a 16mm filmmaker who often uses in-camera effects and editing to create playfully absurd and delightfully perverse environments, with slippages that invite multiple interpretations. Original or found film images are at times re-photographed through optical printing or “crude” DIY animation techniques. Her work subverts narrative conventions by focusing on thought and idea rather than story. She constructs and perverts systems of logic, using provocative imagery and sound to suggest the underlaying mechanisms and patterns developed within these systems. Rebecca studied filmmaking at the University of Maryland at Baltimore County and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has been a recipient of the Maryland State Arts Council Award, and her films have screened in festivals and venues in North America, Europe and Japan, including programs at the Onion City Film Festival, Kino Arsenal, the Images Festival, the Ann Arbor Film Festival, and the Motivate Underground Film Festival.
