Alabama to DC End Prison Slavery Afterparty featuring Nikos

Friday September 20 * 730pm * $10 * RSVP

On September 20, 2019, a delegation of family members with incarcerated loved ones will arrive all the way from Alabama to have their voices heard, say no to new prisons, and push the Department of Justice to take action. While the DOJ issued a report 5 months ago finding ongoing and extreme conditions of cruel and unusual punishment, the Alabama Dept. of Corruption has yet to be held accountable. As long as nothing happens, the lives of those we love remain at risk under conditions of torture, negligence, and corruption. The only "solution" Alabama politicians are moving forward on is an expansion of the prison industrial complex and modern day slavery: the construction of 3 new "mega-prisons". By welcoming the private prison industry into Alabama, we know that these prisons are meant to house our children and grandchildren. It is time to demand real action, a mass release, and to join the growing movement demanding #nonewprisons!

Please join us for this press conference and rally, a call to action originating from the Free Alabama Movement (a movement led by freedom fighters in Alabama who have helped organize and inspire many of the prison strikes of the last five years), Unheard Voices OTCJ, the FAM Queen team, supported by IWOC and Fight Toxic Prisons, and made possible by the magnificent show of solidarity among local DC abolitionist organizations who have tirelessly given their care and energy.
