Marbleous is the duo of contrabassist Margarethe Maierhofer-Lischka (Graz, Austria) and violinist Jeffrey Young (Philadelphia, PA). Marbleous performs musical free improvisation with a theatrical twist, using traditional instruments, unusual objects, and elements of physical theater. Margarethe and Jeffrey first met at the Darmstädter Ferienkurse für Neue Musik in 2008 and reconnected through a project of LUCERNE FESTIVAL ALUMNI in 2017. They formed Marbleous in 2019 following the premiere of the project A History of Characters, a music-theater work they created in collaboration with two other Graz-based musicians. Their premiere US tour will be in February-March 2020.

Growing up in a multicultural family and surrounded by diverse friends has given him a strong appreciation for musical styles from around the globe. Nick Natalie is a saxophonist, composer and educator from Huntington, NY. UK music critic, Phil Stiles, describes his 2018 debut solo record as, “ An album for those who like to seek beyond the obvious and explore the hinterlands of what genre has to offer, Bitingly Right is jazz at its most exploratory and is all the more enjoyable for it.” Reis and Nick began playing together in 2019 and have since released an EP entitled Dialogues.
