Tara Gupta : MINDSCAPE
This exhibition focuses on a series of interrelated paintings that describe a surreal, colorful “place” that is projected in the mind by the pineal gland in order to deal with psychological and emotional trauma. This place is described through the landscapes and colors of each painting, the way vivid dreams translate our everyday into landscapes, colors, and strange events.

The series describes images from my experience dealing with Lupus, an autoimmune disease affecting joints and organs, and the mental and emotional anguish that accompanies the journey through it. Fire, isolation, anger, and peace, acceptance, and growth create complex compositions, exuding the story of healing for an individual echoed in the aches of earth’s landscapes. Though these are productions from my own visual experience of this projected place, I hope the viewer will consider themselves reflected in them, seeing portraits of their own life in parts of the pieces that reflect our collective consciousness.

Allen Watke : Pacific Union
Pacific Union is a journey along the West Coast between SoCal and PNW, which showcases footage I shot on a mini DV cam & cellphone, captured during a train ride on the Coast Starlight Amtrak, airline flights, as well as automobile travels along the coast, into the Joshua Tree National Forest and through downtown LA. These videos were then transferred to VHS spliced together and manipulated utilizing a variety of tools including Archer Video Control Processors / Video Enhancer & Stabilizer, Ambico Video Editing Effects Processors, BPMC-circuit-bent Sima Video Mixer, creating rich textural long form soundscapes that slowly shift over time set to original compositions. The entirety of which is set to three songs featuring the music of the Healing Machine consisting of players Cameron, Seth, Noah, Casey & myself. These three songs, Build Your Own Fire (30 min), Sing Mentira (18 min) and Seth Feels the Love (18 min), are single take, live-improvisational performances.
