Allen Watke

Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Allen Watke honed his musical and video skills in LA County and is a recent transplant to DC. As a self trained multi-instrumentalist, he constantly conspires to create improvisational-experimental-ambient noise set to rich textural videoscapes that throb, drone, stutter and soothe. His video art consists primarily of analog equipment with an emphasis on VHS dubbing, glitching & manipulation. He uses strictly analog video processors, some of which are circuit bent, for manipulating video. All music used to accompany the videos are original compositions.

Pacific Union is a journey along the West Coast between SoCal and PNW, which showcases footage I shot on a mini DV cam & cellphone, captured during a train ride on the Coast Starlight Amtrak, airline flights, as well as automobile travels along the coast, into the Joshua Tree National Forest and through downtown LA. These videos were then transferred to VHS spliced together and manipulated utilizing a variety of tools including Archer Video Control Processors / Video Enhancer & Stabilizer, Ambico Video Editing Effects Processors, BPMC-circuit-bent Sima Video Mixer, creating rich textural long form soundscapes that slowly shift over time set to original compositions. The entirety of which is set to three songs featuring the music of the Healing Machine consisting of players Cameron, Seth, Noah, Casey & myself. These three songs, Build Your Own Fire (30 min), Sing Mentira (18 min) and Seth Feels the Love (18 min), are single take, live-improvisational performances.

Distracting you to the rear are three long-form VHS glitch-loops entitled; Super Sima Cloud Dub !!, Neon Egg and Sima Supa Swamp. Each 2 hours+ in length.
