In September 2021, a group of student musicians and faculty members at Wilson High School (now Jackson-Reed HS) came together to form Generation Gap. Some of their previous performances have been tied to social action rallies and events at Fort Reno, drawing attention to black land loss and displacement of 300+ families in the 1930s to build Wilson HS and Deal MS. Led by vocalist and keyboardist Julia Schroeder, Generation Gap performs original and covers of mostly obscure rock tunes, including songs from South Carolina’s late/great Charlie McAlister. Jillian Upshaw on drums, Michele Bollinger + Marc Minsker on guitars, and Duane Ludwig on violin. Opening act is The Upshaw Three (or four or five), Jillian’s jazz combo band that gigs whenever she is back home from Berklee College of Music.
