BENEFIT CONCERT for Migrant Solidarity Mutual Aid Network w/ Glitterer / Son Cosita Seria / Silver 100 / La Marvela

Sunday August 7 * 2-6pm * outdoors at Rhizome * suggested donation $10-50 * all proceeds to Solidarity with Migrants * TICKETS

A benefit in support of the Migrant Solidarity Mutual Aid Network, an all-volunteer coalition of 20+ organizations in the DMV who have been receiving migrants from the Texas/Mexico border since April. As part of a political stunt to pressure the federal government to enact draconian border measures, migrants are being sent every day in buses from Texas to DC and dropped off at Union Station. Since April, thousands of asylum seekers escaping poverty and violence have been greeted by local volunteers who coordinate food, clothes, travel, shelter and when possible, long-term solutions for those seeking to stay in the DMV area. Your support helps the network to continue providing the dignified welcome that these migrants deserve.

=====
Glitterer is the project of Ned Russin, most known for playing in Pennsylvania-based band Title Fight, Ned currently lives in DC and has been releasing music as Glitterer since 2017, with the most recent release being " Life Is Not A Lesson", released on ANTI- in 2021.

Son Cosita Seria was formed in 2008 by a group of friends in Washington, DC who are students of Son Jarocho, traditional string music from the state of Veracruz in southeastern Mexico that combines Spanish, indigenous, and West African roots. It’s traditionally played in community celebrations called fandangos, where musicians come together to play music and dance zapateado. In recent years there’s been a resurgence of Son Jarocho in Veracruz and other parts of Mexico that has spread to communities in the U.S., with new generations learning the music and joining in a movement to preserve these cultural traditions. As part of this, we like to give workshops, use the music to support local community events, and share the spirit of the fandango with our friends here in DC!

Silver 100 is a new project comprised of Ned from @glitterererer , Gene and John from @givemusical and their friend Russell.

La Marvela (wonderful; extraordinary) was formed in 2017 by Marly Perez, Velu Ochoa and Alison Caro, three female Colombian artists seeking a more balanced and equal gender representation in music. Encouraging four other local artists to join and create a learning space of soulful rhythms such as Bullerengue, Cumbia, Fandango e Lengua and Chalupa.

A huge thank you to the artists and to the mutual aid volunteers doing this critical work.

Rhizome DC is located at 6950 Maple St NW DC, 3 blocks from the Takoma metro station.
