End of the World Reading & Action Group

Every other Tuesday starting September 13 * 7pm * MASKS REQUIRED * RSVP

End of the World Reading & Action Group

This is a group for people who are seeking out more humane modes of being in the face of massive forces of exploitation and destruction of people and planet.

We are going to start with anthropologist Anna Lowenhaupt Tsing's 2015 book The Mushroom at the End of the World: On the Possibility of Life in Capitalist Ruins. For Sept.27, we’re reading through the end of Part 2 (up through page 144). We encourage you to buy or borrow the book (DC library has at least one copy) but if you RSVP we will send you a link to a pdf.

We also plan to read Mutual Aid: Building Solidarity During This Crisis (and the Next) by Dean Spade; Fragments of an Anarchist Anthropology by David Graeber; and something by Octavia Butler. We'll choose other reading together. We'll meet every other week to discuss and to consider where our discussions might have tangible actionable implications.

Rhizome's communal learning series is untaught and unled. Our discussion/action groups are an opportunity for people to learn about a topic by reading, discussing, and then experimenting with the ideas that grow out of our discussions. We gather around an idea or a skill we'd like to learn or explore, and turn our ideas into experiences and actions. This group is open to all. The hope is to form a group that is eager to convene regularly.
