Matthew Waterman and Felipe Verdejo with Koray Ergunay / Zulfugar Baghirov & Koray Ergunay Duo

Transparent Productions presents an evening of music from some DMV-based, improvising musicians: the duo of Matthew Waterman and Felipe Verdejo with guest Koray Ergunay, and the duo of Zulfugar Baghirov and Koray Ergunay.

MATTHEW WATERMAN and FELIPE VERDEJO call their duo Local Adult Males. They use trombone and effects pedals to create improvisational soundscapes, textures, and musical happenings. They joined forces with KORAY ERGUNAY on electric bass to scale new and bolder heights.

Matthew is a trombonist and composer from Bloomington, Indiana. With a foundation in jazz, Matthew’s music draws on influences from classical, rock, Afro-Cuban, and other stylesof music. After studying composition in Norway, Matthew relocated to Washington, D.C. in 2022. He is a member of Finding Frances, which released its debut record For Flowers Yet to Bloom in August 2023.

Felipe is a musician from Santiago, Chile and New York. Felipe has a background in classical voice and audio engineering, and attempts to combine his love of music with his love of technology. Felipe plays bass in Dr. Horsedoctor and Arid Bloom. Through the use of effects pedals, he explores the expansive potentialities for audio manipulation and textural sculpting.

Koray is an electric bass player and composer from Ankara, Turkey. A music enthusiast with diverse interests and playing styles, Koray released several solo and collaborative works, ranging from progressive rock to free improvisation.

ZULFUGAR BAGHIROV is a jazz saxophonist, clarinetist, and educator. A graduate of Berklee College of Music with a master of music degree in jazz saxophone performance from NYU, Zulfugar has performed in many venues in the DMV and New York, including the Blue Note and Lincoln Center, as well as the Baku International and Montreux Jazz Festivals. He is an adjunct professor of music at Northern Virginia Community College’s (NOVA) and teaches at Montgomery College in Silver Spring.

Koray and Zulfugar explore the music of the moment fiercely, with an astonishing chemistry and

spontaneous interaction, possibly enabled by their shared heritage.
