For this month's Puppet Lab, we are pleased to welcome guest facilitators Maisie O'Brien and Georgia Beatty for a workshop on choreographing puppetry and music, previewing some of their methods used in devising their collaborative show SPIRIT-RIDER & NIGHT-HEART, which they will perform at 1:30pm the same afternoon. This session is for musicians as much as it is for puppeteers, and can accommodate curious individuals from all experience levels.
In the workshop Georgia and Maisie will:
Present their methods of collaborating
Discuss & demonstrate specific puppet techniques developed for their show
Discuss & demonstrate sonic textures, groovefeel & improvising vs pre-determined music
Lead puppeteers through experimenting in-workshop to various musical qualities
Finish with reviewing any participants' pieces being made outside of the workshop & general questions
Rhizome Puppet Lab supports the development of works in progress: you can present work for feedback or direct others in lab to improvise parts/puzzle out specific scenes and how your show might work. Improvisation is central to our explorations.
Participants are highly encouraged to bring their own instruments, and/or recycled cereal boxes and found objects to create shadow puppets with.
