A D.C. native, Trae Crudup came up in the gospel tradition, and he has the powerful wrists and relentless intensity to show it — but years of gigs on D.C.’s jazz scene have given him the sensitivity to dial into whatever style he’s playing in. You might have heard him as the locomotion behind saxophonist James Brandon Lewis’s internationally acclaimed trio, or as the heartbeat of avant collective Heroes Are Gang Leaders, or as one-half of D.C.’s new progressive fusion duo Blacks’ Myths (whom you can find at the No. 2 spot on CapitalBop’s Best D.C. Jazz Albums of 2018 list).
Mark Cisneros is a Washington, DC based multi-instrumentalist, composer, and improviser whose creative output toggles between the Jazz, experimental, punk, and improvised music worlds. As a saxophonist he studied at the New School in New York City under the tutelage of such greats as Ahmed Abdullah, David Schnitter, Joe Chambers, and Tim Price. His current trio with bassist Luke Stewart and drummer Nik Francis called WE WERE HERE BEFORE just released their debut record on Catalytic Sound. He also currently plays reeds, percussion, and upright bass with Zach Barocas’ New Freedom Sound, drums in The Make-Up, and guitar in Hammered Hulls, Kid Congo and the Pink Monkey Birds, and Des Demonas.
Nate Scheible is a DC-based drummer/improviser who has performed and recorded in a variety of bands and ensembles spanning multiple genres over the past 25 years. Collaborators in recent years include Sarah Hughes, Nik Francis, Layne Garrett, and the bands Mock Identity and Zara. While his background is largely based in improvisation, his recent solo work has focused on the manipulation of magnetic audio tape, radio waves, and fancy electronics his friends are willing to lend him, featured prominently in releases by such labels as ACR, Never Anything, and Unifactor. His most recent album Fairfax received a vinyl reissue by Warm Winters Ltd in spring, 2022.
