Jessica Moss / Ka Baird / Greg Davis / Alma Laprida

Monday May 8 * doors at 630, music at 7 * TICKETS

Jessica Moss is a Montréal-based violinist and composer who began writing and performing solo work under her own name in 2014; she has since released four full-length albums. Moss uses amplified and processed violin (and voice) to create works of expressive electronic- and drone-inflected post-classical Minimalism and Maximalism, with a distinctive melodic sensibility that channels Klezmer, Balkan and Middle Eastern tropes, and an ear for textural grit and timbral noise forged from her 15-year tenure in political postpunk band Thee Silver Mt. Zion (2001-2016). Moss has toured extensively throughout North America and Europe, including festival appearances at Big Ears, WSO New Music, Le Guess Who?, ATP, Zemlika and Supersonic, participation in multiple editions of Basilica Hudson’s 24-Hour Drone Fest, and a mix of headlining and support dates with the likes of Zu, Big|Brave, GAS, Xylouris White, Julia Holter, and labelmates Godspeed You! Black Emperor, among many others.

Ka Baird is a performer, composer and sound designer based in New York City. They are known for their live performances which include extended voice and microphone techniques combined with electronics and psychoacoustic interplay of flutes and other woodwinds. They create a present tense sound with a vigorous, ritualistic delivery that seeks extreme release through physical exertion and psychic extension. They have worked/collaborated with many other musicians, artists, filmmakers and choreographers, both in structured compositions and in their dedicated practice of improvisation and interdisciplinary work. “I am obsessed with hyper-presence and physicality. There is an earnest precision, teetering between slapstick and ritual, to the visceral delivery of my sound shaping.  I want to spew sound around, much like spit or the exhalation of a breath, deconstructing it as it is dispersed.”

Greg Davis is an internationally recognized electronic musician / composer who has been releasing music and playing shows since 2001. Davis has released albums on labels such as Important, Kranky, Ekhein, Room40, Install, Home Normal, Digitalis, NNA, Greyfade, Carpark Records, as well on his own Autumn Records. He lives in Burlington VT and owns and operates Autumn Records store in Winooski VT.
