Joseph Allred is a Tennessee-based guitarist, singer, multi-instrumental composer, and visual artist with deep roots in the Upper Cumberland region of Tennessee and Kentucky. Their guitar playing draws from diverse musical styles including Appalachian folk, bluegrass, blues, flamenco, and classical guitar, as well as from folk iconoclasts John Fahey and Robbie Basho, figures of the 20th century avant-garde like Albert Ayler, Derek Bailey, and Henry Flynt, and the musical traditions of India, Iran, and the Arab world. They have released music on Feeding Tube Records, Worried Songs, Scissor Tail Editions, AKTI, Island House, Blue Hole Recordings, Garden Portal, Reverb Worship/Future Grave, and their own Meliphonic Records imprint.
Mixing dreamy lo-fi electronic music, American Primitive Guitar compositions, and lyrical songwriting, Dan Goldberg has been releasing albums and playing shows under the moniker “The Spookfish'' since 2007. He organizes a recurring series called “mountain shows," where musical performances take place on guided hikes up and down mountains. Currently based in downeast Maine, he is on tour to support his recent album “Bear In The Snow” along with the video game he made to accompany it.
Since 2005, Baltimore-based songwriter Bob Keal has released and performed music as Small Sur alongside a rotating cast of musicians. Keal has always been elusive–touring only occasionally, self-releasing the majority of his full-length records, and rarely throwing elbows in the attention economy. Despite this relative obscurity, his unique and understated songwriting has been hailed as “expansive” (Aquarium Drunkard), “stoic, dark, and exuberant” (Tiny Mix Tapes), and “serene minimalism [which] conjures large expanses of natural landscapes at their most beautiful” (NPR). His songwriting tends to speak the language of the natural world, and it is this relationship to nature which informed his work on 2022’s Attic Room, released via UK imprint Worried Songs.
