Chris Corsano / Redgrave & Weeks / SNL

Sunday September 24 * 7pm * TICKETS

Chris Corsano is a New York-based drummer working at the intersections of free jazz, avant-rock, and experimental music since the late ‘90s. He’s been the rim-batterer of choice for some of the greatest contemporary purveyors of “jazz” (Joe McPhee, Paul Flaherty, Zoh Amba) and “rock” (Sir Richard Bishop, Bill Orcutt, Jim O’Rourke), as well as artists beyond categorization (Björk for her Volta album and world tour, Michael Flower, Okkyung Lee). Appearing on over 150 albums and touring in an ultra-wide array of collaborations, Corsano is also a renowned solo performer in his own right, with a new solo record The Key due out next year on the Drag City label. He’s built a highly inventive musical language via ecstatic free improvisation, extended percussion techniques, and the augmentation of his kit with circular-breathed reeds and bowed strings which coax new resonances out of the drums’ heads. Corsano’s been called an “ace of the avant-garde” by The New York Times, “one of the world’s great drummers” by The Guardian, a “powerhouse drummer” by Rolling Stone, and “arguably the most riotously energetic and creative drummer in contemporary free jazz” by Wire Magazine. Spin ranked him as one of the “100 Greatest Drummers of Alternative Music,” and In 2017, he received the Foundation for Contemporary Arts Grants to Artists Award.

Peter Redgrave is an interdisciplinary artist and educator. He is interested in limits, interruption, narrative, and what it is to be human. His current work involves physical exploration and presentation of the body as a tool for collective memory - a theater of movement. Khristian Weeks is a parent, artist, musician, educator, and caregiver. He has a degree in Theoretical studies and composition from the New England Conservatory of Music. He has been performing and presenting his work as well as spending his days playing with very young children since the late 1980’s. It is Weeks’s intention in all of his work to provide a sensory rich environment and experience for those in his care. He lives and works in Baltimore, Maryland. In this collaboration, movement, sound, lighting, and the space itself are used as materials. Their pieces are constructed with highly adaptable and improvisational scores. Character and dialogue become elements to construct and enact purposeless task-oriented spectacles. https://vimeo.com/475640063

SNL is the trio of Sarah Hughes, Nate Scheible, and Layne Garrett. Improvised music.
