Max Kutner's Partial Custody / Wooder / Corset Lore

Friday October 4 * 7pm * $15-25 * TICKETS

PARTIAL CUSTODY, the latest project and album from Brooklyn-based composer and multi-instrumentalist Max Kutner, is ultimately about impressions and experience. In sound and practice, this debut recording from his new trio represents a unique evolution in Kutner’s artistic vision. By incorporating more repetitive, trancelike open forms, Kutner is able to better immerse listeners in the full experience of his fantastical sound-world. That said, fans of the more familiar qualities of his work thus far - namely collisions of intricate, math-y jazz, process music and post-punk - will reap many rewards from this adventurous collection of tunes.

Max Kutner - guitars, keyboards, samples, objects
Ben Stapp - tuba with and without implements
James Paul Nadien - drumset, glockenspiel

"Max Kutner and his estimable ensemble cook up a most potent stew of the freewheeling mixed with the über-exacting, and their concoction is more than worthy of your attention.” - Nels Cline

Performing under the moniker Wooder, Aaron Igler (Sound Forager), Eugene Lew (Hungry Monsters, Totally Automatic), and Carolyn Zaldivar Snow (Tangent Universes), use field-recorded audio, modular synthesis, and percussion to explore the spectral and temporal correlations of hyper-natural turbulence, mapping it across systems.

Corset Lore is the electronic music project of Tamara Yadao, Asian-American composer/musician/artist.  She writes electronic, avant-pop in a lyrical and baroque style using Game Boys, trackers, synths and vocals.  Her experimental, chiptune adjacent music lies at the intersection of baroque style, folklore, fantasy, science fiction and underground music of the late 20th century. To name a few, she has performed her chip music at: the Hackers on Planet Earth conference, Brown University, Centre Pompidou, MoMA/PS1 and Trans Pecos in Brooklyn.
