OFFSITE CONCERT: The Abe Mamet Septet: “levitate the heavy part” (live recording session at Tonal Park)

Monday July 1 * doors at 730, music at 8 * $15-35 * location: Tonal Park * TICKETS

Transparent Productions and Rhizome present The Abe Mamet Septet in a live recording session for levitate the heavy part, a new album.

* Please note that this event will take place at Tonal Park (7014-C Westmoreland Ave in Takoma Park, MD, just blocks away from Rhizome’s main Maple Street location).

** Because this is a live recording session, audience members are asked to show up on time for the performance. Those that arrive late may not be able to enter. The band will play the full suite once through, and may record other takes once the performance is concluded.

The Abe Mamet Septet is:
Abe Mamet, French horn
Alex Hamburger, flute
Sarah Hughes, saxophones
Jason Torres, tuba
Jamie Sandel, violin
Will Tober, bass
Keith Butler, Jr., drums

levitate the heavy part is a new suite of music that uses composition as a platform for each band member’s creative freedom. From a genre perspective, the music is aligned with and informed by the many jazz/Black American/creative music traditions that have come before it, focusing on groove, improvisation, and textured tonality.

Listen to the Abe Mamet Quintet perform Joe Bonner, a track from Abe’s 2021 album. Read a bit more about Abe on his website.

*** Attendees will be able to purchase in advance a limited edition version of the record featuring exclusive cover art only available here and at the release party; heavily discounted merchandise from Abe’s archives will also be available to purchase.

**** The Abe Mamet Septet’s new album is made possible in part by generous funding from the Prince George's County Arts and Humanities Council.
