Saturday July 13 * doors at 6, music at 630 * in the backyard * $15-25 * TICKETS

E, the trio of Jason Sanford (Neptune), Thalia Zedek (Come, Live Skull) and new drummer Ernie Kim released their 5th full length LP, “Living Waters”, on Silver Rocket in April of 2024. On “Living Waters”, E delivers nine explosive new songs. Zedek and Sanford continue to develop the, at times densely, interwoven guitar interplay that has characterized their work to date, while simultaneously revealing a new set tricks and approaches displaying a songwriting ethic that continues to evolve dynamically. With the addition of Kim’s aggressive and musical approach to the drums, E delivers a sound that is both taut and driven, shimmering with the delineation of new constellations of sound. Formed by Sanford and Zedek in 2013 with original drummer Alec Tisdale, E released a cassette and 7” before being joined by drummer Gavin McCarthy (Karate) shortly before recording their 1st self titled full length in 2016 for the Thrill Jockey label. 2018 saw their 2nd LP “Negative Work” also released on Thrill Jockey. Their subsequent 2 LP’s 2020’s “Complications” and 2022’s “Any Information” were released by the Czech label Silver Rocket. After the recording of “Any Information” McCarthy was replaced by Ernie Kim on drums for the subsequent European tour. In 2023 E released their first recording with Kim, a live 7” recorded at Cave 12 in Geneva on the 100% Breakfast label. E’s records have received favorable reviews in publications such as Wire, Mojo, Dusted, The Big Takeover, FREQ, Exit Musik and Rock Delux and they look forward to returning to Europe in June/July 2024 in support of their new LP, “Living Waters.”

New Passengers combines indie jangle, enjoyably abrasive power pop, and Buddy Holly-inspired rock n' roll to bring a new sound to DC. Singer and guitarist Aaron Morgan is a veteran of the 2000’s San Francisco scene, as the bassist for Thrill Jockey’s Golden Void, one-half of indie-folk duo The Finches, and a multi-instrumentalist for others. With New Passengers, Morgan elevated his status of trusted sideman to become the primary songwriter drawing on a wide range of influences and expanding on years of bedroom recordings. Fresh to the DC area, Morgan met bassist Candice Adams at a Smashing Times show at Quarry House in early 2023. Adams, also from California, made her mark as a singer and bassist for numerous Sacramento punk bands including Nacho Business, Milhouse, and Riff Randals. Morgan and Adams quickly discovered shared musical sensibilities and shortly after their first rehearsals recruited DC native Dan Sachs to play drums and guitarist Roger Poulin. Sachs has played with numerous DC bands in genres ranging from post-hardcore to alt-country to synth folk, notably with experimental dork-punk heroes Surgery Dot Com. Poulin, originally from Boston, has been active on both coasts for over a decade, including as a second guitarist and backing vocalist for Magic Shoppe. Since moving to DC in 2018, Pulin has released two masterfully layered dream-pop/shoegaze recordings as Binding Spell, as well as playing in local post-punk band Opt Out. New Passengers are just wrapping up a series of demo recordings and will begin self-releasing songs this summer.
