LMB Presents…
Love Call is a leaderless collective made up of saxophonist Max Bessesen, bassist Ethan Philion, and drummer Devin Drobka. After working together in various other configurations, they performed as a trio for the first time in February 2021. Love Call has given several concerts a year since then.
Their music is influenced by the work of Chicago’s AACM, New York’s “downtown scene,” and trailblazers like Paul Motian and Ornette Coleman. The group’s name comes from the title of Coleman’s 1971 Blue Note release. Love Call has a unique sound marked by a congenial sense of trust and a shared group language. They perform original compositions by all three members of the band.
DC-Native Guitarist Jack Waugh presents Americanaland, his Americana Jazz Fusion quartet featuring pianist Jack Gruber, bassist Ollie Unger and drummer Sean Sidley. Waugh has performed at venues including 9:30 Club, Nublu, Strathmore, and Miracle Theater, and is currently an Adjunct Professor of Jazz Guitar at Towson University. Jazz, Rock, Americana, Bluegrass, Blues, and Pop can all be heard in his compositions and in his group’s exciting new sound.
