Randall Huth has been active in underground music since the late '90s. Guitarist and vocalist in serpentine riffers Pearls and Brass, dreary blues tinged solo work as Randall of Nazareth (Drag City Records), and the bassist for Pissed Jeans (Sub Pop Records) since 2007. Stepping away from the growl of amps pushed into the red, his solo performances are stripped-down acoustic guitar. Meandering instrumentals rely on bursts of improvisation. There’s a deep emotional connection between Huth and the music he plays, one that comes with decades of sitting down with the instrument.
Sean McGuinness has been releasing solo material since 2017 with "Ready to be Rich" and following up with "A-U-U" in 2022 that leans heavily into the fourth world, Eno-adjacent sound while experimenting on his own. He is better known as the man in the back of the punk-hardcore outfit Pissed Jeans. Recently his live solo sets contain a simplified attack of polyrhythmic synth loops tucked under joyful, sometimes improvised drumming.
Earthen Sea is the experimental ambient/beat solo project of Jacob Long. He crafts a compelling synthesis of shadowy rhythms and opaque atmospherics, drawing on the most potent qualities of melancholic ambient and dub techno. He began releasing Earthen Sea material during the early 2000s. Released on limited-edition cassettes and CD-Rs, some of his earliest material utilized violin, tape decks, and keyboards to create eerie soundscapes. In 2014, taking a more beat oriented approach, the "Mirage" EP was released on the Lovers Rock imprint. This release was followed by the project's first full-length "Ink"which appeared on Lovers Rock in 2015. A digital EP titled "The Sun Will Rise" was released by Nicolas Jaar's Other People in 2016. Following a move to Brooklyn, Long released "An Act of Love," his debut on Kranky, in 2017. Since then he has released 3 more records on Kranky the latest being “Recollection” in 2024. Recently his live sets have involved a return to drone oriented live performance that features his saxophone playing.
