Thursday December 5 * 7pm * $10 * TICKETS
Join us the first Thursday of each month for Rhizome's MicroCinema. This month, Mary Billyou (New York) will be there in person to screen her films and answer questions. Huge thanks to Stephanie Barber for helping to curate this film series.
Mary Billyou’s films access cultural memory by pointing to the limits of institutional frames. By reordering inherited authoritative directives, Billyou investigates what is found within the aporias of cinema’s structuring forms. Currently, she is organizing Satellite Cinema, a microcinema in New York City. Screenings include: Ambulante, Images Festival, Spectacle Theater, Crossroads, and Film Mutations. She has been awarded filmmaking grants from Outpost, NYSCA, and the Jerome Foundation. Billyou received her MFA in Film, Video, and New Media from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and attended The Whitney Independent Study Program. Her work has been recognized in Aperture, The New York Times, artforum.com and Octopus Journal.
