Michael Masaru Flora
Michael Masaru Flora is a multidisciplinary artist currently living and working in California. He will be presenting new works based on the results of human-machine improvisation with a custom designed stochastic synthesis system.
Working within the intersections of art, science, music, and mathematics, he is interested in the emergent phenomena that occurs through non-deterministic and autopoietic processes. Informed by architecture, systems, perceptual psychology, visual art, and computer music, his works often take the form of large scale installation and performance.
His work has been presented in School of Design Nanjing University of Arts (China), Shanxi University School of Fine Arts (China), Stanford University’s Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA), Luggage Store Gallery (San Francisco), Orange County Center for Contemporary Art (CA), St Cloud State University (MN), Alfred University (NY) as well as clubs, galleries, theaters, warehouses, and universities internationally.
Carrie Fucile
Carrie Fucile is an interdisciplinary artist and experimental musician whose practice centers on psychogeography. She uses sound, movement, and physical materials to explore the memories accumulated in objects and architecture. Her creative efforts often interpret the effects of nationalism, regime change, and global economics on the human condition.
Fucile has presented her work at venues around the world including The Walters Art Museum, Baltimore, MD; IA&A at Hillyer, Washington, DC; Vox Populi, Philadelphia, PA; Casa Contemporânea, São Paulo, BR; and the Director's Lounge, Berlin, DE. Among other honors, she is a three-time recipient of the Maryland State Art Council’s Individual Artist Award. As part of her research and travels in Central and Eastern Europe, she has completed residencies at D’CLINIC in Hungary and World of Co in Bulgaria. She lives and works in Baltimore, MD.
