Improvisation is alchemical. It comes in many varied forms, and when voices combine something new emerges which otherwise never could have been brought about. Spelunking hidden caves of quiet, pulse, and flow, these improvisers explore sound to its depths. And this night they will go deeper still.
Unfortunately Bashi can't make it after all. The wildcard has been drawn from the deck and we have it on authority from the dealer that it shall be the one and only Sarah Hughes. Come one come all, this will only happen once, if you're there you're there.
Mx. Zoe! Eyerolls is a Maryland-based experimental sound artist, “functioning” on the outer fringes of wtf-ness for eh let’s say like 20 years. Their sounds have been described as "super adventurous" (Tabs Out) and "an annoying noise that demands you turn it off" (THE ORGAN). They have released works on <1, Bent Window, Trepanation Recordings, Moon Musiq, Welcome to Clydebank, Obskyr, and collaborated with artists such as Earthflesh, Whitelace, vay, and Scum Alice. While we’re at it hey they’ve been featured on the Watt From Pedro Show and are at this very moment most likely falling down a flight of stairs.
Gravity, Orbits is a first-time (one-time?) collaboration between Naoco Wowsugi (gong), Nate Scheible (tapes), Ivan Liptak (guitar), and Layne Garrett (guitar). Naoco Wowsugi is an artist and engaged citizen who welcomes all sisters and siblings to rise and gong on. Having good vibrations is the key to the universe. Nate Scheible, who enjoys nasturtiums, fennel seeds, and the smell of bergamot, plays tape loops and other electronics. Ivan Liptak is a guitarist, improviser, and composer. He was born in New York City where he became enamored of punk and no wave music. When he moved to DC in 2007 he began to study jazz and also to perform noise and drone music. Proudly defying categorization, Ivan draws on influences such as Elklink, Eric Dolphy, and Ectoslavia. Layne Garrett is an improvising musician based in Washington DC. He works with prepared guitars, found objects, and self-built instruments. He plays in the improvising duo Weed Tree with drummer Amanda Huron, as well as in regular and irregular collaborations with a spectrum of players from across the DC and Baltimore sound universe.
