December 26 - January 1 * RSVP (Free)
Anarchist Kwanzaa is a series of events held throughout the week of the holiday; a pro-Black celebration created by Maulana Karenga in honor of the beauty in community, food and co-operation. We will be sharing readings, breaking bread, cooking together, watching films, writing songs, and sharing thoughts at each meeting. Each day of Kwanzaa has a specific theme, and we’ll celebrate in accordance with the name given to each day. We will also examine the principles of political / Black anarchism (often referred to as ‘anakarta’) in relation to the holiday – can we build community through communitarian principles? Can we build them through anarchic principles? Do the values of Kwanzaa align with radical political strategies? How can we use the week of Kwanzaa to build out both a community and personal politic that will enliven the new year? Come join us for an exploration of all of these questions, with good food and interesting people.
This event welcomes Black people from all throughout the diaspora, of all ages.
Please RSVP so that we can send you readings for the week.
