Yes We Cannibal (YWC) visits Rhizome to share meat space for the first time.
YWC is an always-evolving horizontal space founded by Mat Keel and Liz Lessner in Baton Rouge, Louisiana during the first week that COVID hit in March 2020. We began streaming copious salon and performance events in December of that year and staggered our physical opening before fully opening our doors in the summer of 2021.
We have hosted approximately fifteen gallery shows with local and international artists, a great many musical events, panel discussions with philosophers, naturalists and others. We’ve participated in academic conferences (and two publications) as Yes We Cannibal. We are involved in numerous mutual aid and abolitionist projects. We run a community fridge, have a monthly rave, a monthly underground hip how showcase, a micro-food forest, and more. We work with many different people from all different walks of life. We’ve put out a book and are working on a catalogue, released several records and much more.
At Rhizome, we’ll talk about what we’ve been doing over the past few years, show slide, videos, posters and some other artifacts and have a dialogue with Thomas Stanley about the connections between spaces like Rhizome, YWC, and others, what they do, why they matter so much, and what they build together. We’re really excited and can’t wait to talk more and meet more people.
