Andy Stack & Jay Hammond’s Inter Personal (Sleepy Cat Records) is a record of seven meditative electro-acoustic duo improvisations. The tone of the record straddles two worlds — one of glitchy synthesizers and pointillistic drums, and the other of languid, lyrical guitar and droning organ pedals. Each piece is a conversation between two old friends, in a language that draws equally upon electronic, ambient, Americana, Krautrock, and jazz sensibilities.
Andy has released multiple albums with Merge Records and has toured extensively as half of the duo Wye Oak since 2006. His solo project, Joyero, was released by Merge Records in 2019. In addition to Wye Oak and Joyero, he has toured and recorded as a member of Lambchop, Helado Negro, EL VY, Thor & Friends, and many others. Jay records under the moniker Trippers & Askers, whose latest release was called a "shimmering homage to nature" by The Guardian. He has toured and recorded with Psychic Temple, Eamon Fogarty, and No Lands.
Tacoma Park is John Harrison (Jphono1, North Elementary, the Comas) and Benjamin David Felton (BloodRevenge, Shark Quest, Jett Rink). The decision to play together seemed obvious. John was interested in exploring his improvisational side more, and Ben was interested in playing with someone other than himself. Long story short, they got together with guitars, played an inaugural show under their own names, brought some synthesizers to practice, and became Tacoma Park. In April of 2023, the band released Tacoma Park, the band’s second album.
Dave Heumann is a founding member of Arbouretum, Human Bell, Coil Sea, Heumann Homan Highway, The Sea Caucus, and The People's Longband. His latest solo record, Guitar Tapes Vol 1, is available now on Sun Cru. At once transportive, meditative, and grounding, Guitar Tapes Vol 1 integrates moments of serene observance with up-tempo exhilaration, drawing you forward through wooded footpaths and forested foregrounds that dissolve into sloping fields and megalithic horizons. Baltimore-based drummer Mike Kuhl has performed locally and throughout the globe alongside jazz greats Dave Liebman, Tony Malaby, Michael Formaneck, Dave Ballou, Tim Berne, Jason Rigby, Mark Guiliana, Ellery Eskelin and Claudio Roditi. Outside of jazz, Kuhl has shared the stage with many international acts such as Beach House, Arboretum, Cigarettes After Sex, Tom Tom Club, and The Ravonnettes. Alongside his musical career, Mike is an accomplished Ba Gua martial artist and believes the grace and power of the body movements of Kung fu go hand in hand with his style of drumming. Kuhl is currently an adjunct faculty member at Towson University teaching drum set lessons and coaching various ensembles.
