Embodiment Workshop w/ alexis sāga & Chloe M

Wednesday February 14 * 7pm * $20-35 sliding scale - email for scholarship options * REGISTER

Join us on Valentine’s Day to pour into yourself with devotion. Explore the sensory, connect to the way your body comes alive through your presence in the safety of community.

This 2 hour workshop will help you find a path towards embodiment by exploring embodiment vs dis-embodiment, giving grace to self through practice, and creating tools to deepen your embodiment in daily life. Our intention is to help answer these questions:
1. What does it feel like to you when you feel embodied? What does it feel like when you feel dis-embodied?
2. What practices, activities, mantras, media, coping mechanisms do you gravitate towards/implement to create embodiment? What if embodiment feels far away, how do these practices shift?
3. Do you experience self judgment when struggling to feel embodied? How do you release judgment?
4. Do you find that ritual acts as a touch stone in connecting to your body? What rituals can you create to maintain stable embodiment?

These are some of the questions that will be explored in this workshop. It is encouraged that you ponder them regardless of whether you join the space in person. This is a thought provoking exercise so please know that it is ok if some or all of them are unanswerable.

This workshop will include: guided breathwork and visual mediation; storytelling through movement; discussion and Q&A; Integration.

Mindfulness Meditation

Saturday April 6 * 1-2pm * $5 * RSVP

If you're new to mindfulness meditation, fear not! It is an ancient practice (roughly 2,600 years old!) of gently paying attention to the present moment, without judgement. Lately, more and more of us in the West have been learning and disseminating it as a tool for reducing stress. It is definitely useful for that. But it is also about cultivating our innate qualities of concentration, kindness, resilience, and compassion.

Class format: The class will last an hour and will include an introduction and some instruction, followed by a guided, seated meditation for 20-30 minutes. We'll then wrap up with a debrief/discussion.

No prior meditation experience is necessary. Bring a pillow or cushion to sit on the floor. Or you can sit in a chair.

About the teacher: Eliza Barclay has trained in the Buddhist tradition of vipassana/insight meditation, and will be offering a secular class, open to all. She is currently a teacher-in-training with the Engaged Mindfulness Institute. She also works as a science and health journalist in Washington, DC.

Suggested donation: $5 for the use of the space

Talking about Sex - A Womyn Uncorked Workshop

3:00 PM15:00

Talking about Sex - A Womyn Uncorked Workshop

Sunday, January 27 2019, 3-5pm. $15 suggested donation or pay what you can. * RSVP

For people who identify as women only - Connect with other womyn in a confidential, non-judgmental space to practice talking about our desires, to discuss what's on our minds and in our hearts, to work on new ways to open up communication. This workshop is especially for women that feel like they don't have people with whom they can talk openly and honestly about sexual topics.

In this workshop we will do a series of guided exercises to practice active listening and active sharing about issues in our sexual lives. Some of the exercises are inspired by Authentic Relating Games which aim to give people tools to connect more meaningfully with others. This workshop builds on the Women Uncorked salon series, but with more structure to the flow of conversation, paths for deepening connection, and space for everyone to share what's on their minds and feel heard. The goal is to break down some of the barriers and taboos in talking about sex and feel connection and support from our sisters.

Complementary wine. Feel free to bring your favorite beverage, or a snack to share. Will start promptly at 3 and no late arrivals, please.

Space is limited: please register on Eventbrite. Suggested donation $15 or pay what you can

Solstice Workshop -- Rituals of Respect: Creating Meaningful Practices in a Climate of Disconnection

Thursday December 20 * 7-830pm * Sliding scale $5 to $20 * Pre-registration Recommended

Plants offer many ways to enrich our connection to nature and place, but it can be difficult to sort out meaningful practices in the context of commercialization, commodification, and cultural appropriation. Join local herbalist Holly Poole-Kavana to explore ways to forge connections to local plants and create thoughtful rituals based on respect for plants, cultures, and our own selves. We'll use the Winter Solstice as an example for creating ritual.

Holly Poole-Kavana is a DC-based herbalist of northern European descent practicing in the Western herbal tradition. Her practice, Little Red Bird Botanicals, focuses on using locally grown plants as medicine.

Workshop: Exploring Touch and Consent

Saturday Dec. 1 * 230-530pm * $28-$38 sliding scale * ADVANCE TICKETS * No one turned away for lack of funds

Do you have trouble expressing your desires? Do you struggle to assert your boundaries around touch? Do you want to take your experiences with touch from fine to amazing?

Exploring Consent and Touch is a guided, clothes-on workshop for practicing clear consent and non-sexual, open-hearted touch. It is an invitation to connect, express your no, set your boundaries, own your desires, practice moving through and past rejection, negotiate, enjoy and explore touch, and be present with yourself and others. All in a fun, playful workshop that welcomes all bodies, races, genders, orientations, relationship configurations and backgrounds.

What is non-sexual, open-hearted touch? It is touch that is given and received with an open heart. It is touch that is always 100% chosen by all parties. Touch without any agenda that is given with an open heart can be incredibly nourishing to the human spirit, and it is the goal of this workshop to create space to give and receive that together.

All exercises are 100% optional.

Workshop: Create Your Own Love Map
Nov
18
2:30 PM14:30

Workshop: Create Your Own Love Map

Sunday Nov. 18 * 2:30 pm * $15 suggested (PRE-REGISTER)

According to the research of John and Julie Gottman, people in successful relationships are intimately familiar with each other’s worlds and how they work. They remember the major events in each other’s histories, they understand their partner's triggers, patterns, turn-ons and turn-offs, and they keep updating their information as the facts and feelings of their partner's world change. They know their partner's temperament, fears, hopes and dreams.

But how can your partner know these things about you? While the Gottmans believe this knowledge is created together in the context of a relationship, often, it starts with self-knowledge. Yes, a partner can learn things about you through observation over time. But a lot of what they learn is also what you tell them, and how you explain and interpret your behavior and choices. And if you aren't able to tell your partner how you work, what you need and what you dream about, it will be a lot of trial and error to figure out how to understand and take care of one another.

One powerful tool to help with this self-knowledge is to map out who you are in relationships. Some people have called a "personal user manual" or "operating instructions." The Gottmans use the term "love map."

In this workshop, through a series of guided exercises, we will create a map of ourselves so that we might become more intimately acquainted with ourselves, and so that we might share this map with others in our life.

If you want to participate and need any accommodation, please e-mail Libby at libby@libbysinback.com The venue is partially accessible: there is a ramp around back to enter, but there are stairs to the bathroom.

No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Please e-mail Libby at libby@libbysinback.com if you'd like to volunteer in exchange for a free ticket.

Women Uncorked is a gathering for womyn only, talking about sex - the science, the social, the politics, the personal. It's a safe place to break free of cultural taboos on talking honestly and personally about sexual topics. We talk about about desire, love and relationships, our bodies and our sexuality. We talk intimately about living and loving as women today. We share wisdom with understanding and acceptance and wine.

We are a diverse group of people who identify as womyn, with different orientations and relationship styles, different ages and life experiences, sharing perspectives and experience about the most intimate of topics. You can just sit and listen, and only talk if you feel comfortable. Starting topic this month: Let's talk about fantasies! Do you have them? Fantasies are good for us, but sometimes we feel shame for the content of our fantasies. Sometimes our fantasies don't align with our politics. Does fantasizing center you in the moment? Or does fantasizing disconnect you from your partner? Let's talk about the benefits of a rich and imaginative fantasy life.

Complementary wine. Feel free to bring your favorite beverage, or a snack to share.
