Local mask maker David Camero will guide participants through the process of making unique masks from found and recycled materials.

Using traditional methods and some recycled materials, following different tips and ways, participants will create a traditional masks original from diverse cultures around the word, favorite animals, characters or their own ‘Action mask’, pushing forward our fantastic imaginations to make an original art work for Halloween, Carnivals, Masquerades, Rituals and Special Events.

Participants are encouraged to bring materials they would like to incorporate into the masks, including:

David Camero is an artist, actor, and educator based in Washington, DC. David grew up in Venezuela and spent time in France studying painting and literature. His practice takes inspiration from many diverse sources, including Shakespeare, Rabelais, Renaissance arts, folk traditions, Surrealism, Fauvism, clowning, etc. He creates playful works with a theatrical accent that reflect profound gestures of communication. In DC he has taught cultural workshops and the arts in several schools and recreation centers. He has shown his work in solo and group shows around the region. He founded the ALACP/Art Latin American Collective Project inviting talented Latinx artists from around the East coast to share our creativity and different cultural backgrounds with other groups. He is also the founder of Compania del Bouffon, which facilitates al fresco theatre experiences, allowing people of all ages to participate in fantastical worlds following the commitment of the Commedia del’Arte movement: “Laughing is the healing of the soul.” His masks are on view at Rhizome in April of this year.
