Middle Schooler’s Crash Course in People Power (Direct Action): Learn the Creative, Beautiful, Risky, and Clever Strategies That Make Change..... August 17-21..... Ages 12-14

This course will meet twice daily on Zoom, 10-1130 AM and 1-2PM. Participants will also need Internet access in the interim for about 25-45 minutes of independent research.

Monday: Obstructions and Sit-Ins
Tuesday: Strikes and Noncompliance
Wednesday: Marches and Street Takeovers
Thursday: Protest Art, Music, and Optics
Friday: Action Planning! What would it take to generate change on climate and racial justice?

Each morning, Alix Davidson, veteran direct action trainer since she locked herself to a logging road 25 years ago, and Anna Josephson, frequent collaborator with Rhizome community middle schoolers, will introduce the day’s topic. Using lots of examples from around the world, we’ll learn how to grab attention, gain support, and generate change.

Participants will take on a short independent study to report back on in the afternoon, the idea being to pool knowledge in preparation for Friday’s creative collaboration.

The intended age range is 12-14 years old, but please do get in touch if you're interested and have a child outside that age range.

Pricing is on a sliding scale, $75-$175 for the week.

Please email info@rhizomedc.org to reserve a spot or with any questions. Limited enrollment.
